Information for
potential students:
- If you are a ECE/CS junior/senior at Illinois with solid
programming experience (C++, Python, ROS) and you are
interested in this area, please send an email with your resume
(with GPA) and we will setup an interview. I can fund
undergraduate researchers. You can also do an independent study or a thesis (ECE 496/499).
- I generally provide RA funding only to PhD
students with "mathematical maturity". Roughly
this means ability to understand and recreate theorems and
proofs from technical papers which use applied
mathematics in the context of, say, algorithms, automata
theory, control theory, logic, stochastic processes, etc. See
the exercise below.
- I may advise MS research if you have outstanding programming
skills.
- I am not looking to hire international undergraduate summer interns.
Exercise for PhD applicants. Choose 1-2 recent papers
from here.
Write a brief critique: what is the main result, why does it
work (where does it break)? This is a mechanism for me to
judge your level of interest and preparation. If this is a
good fit, I can do much more for you in terms of admissions
and funding.
